Day 1- San Francisco to Yosemite- (Friday)
We left from the SF Holiday Inn at 8:30 AM. By Pleasanton, Linda's '60 Morgan was having fuel problems. Any hill and she lost power. Ken thought it had been fixed back at our house on Wednesday, but no luck. Linda managed to nurse her car along to Modesto, when Phil and Ken stopped at Napa Auto Parts and bought several fuel related items in order to fix the car at Yosemite, even tho' we really didn't know what the problem was at that point. We were thinking she had some dirty fuel from a fill up in Gilroy when the problem started. We went on to Coulterville, and stopped for lunch. Alan suggested that perhaps there was water in the fuel, so we bought a bottle of STP and emptied it into her nearly empty fuel tank... too empty to make it to Mariposa. Philip had assured us there was gasoline in Coulterville. There isn't. So we could try to make it to Mariposa and not run out of gas, or drive 7 miles up the road to Greeley Hill and go into El Portal from the Highway 120 side, Subsequently we drove up the newly dedicated John Muir Highway to 120 and in to Yosemite "our usual way". Linda's Morgan purred, so we thought the problem resolved with a little STP. Along with Alan, we took some pictures of us in front of the hn Muir Highway sign. A young man from Russia came out of his cabin and took pictures of us. He is here on a work study program. After passing through the Yosemite Entrance, Alan had tossed his wallet into the front seat of his car, and then couldn't find it for nearly an hour. So we visited with all the Japanese and Korean tourists who descended upon us just inside the gate. Arriving at Yosemite View Lodge , we met up with Ken and Judy from MOA IV and from London Canada who are on their own Morgan your. Pizza dinner with the Americans rounded out the evening, with us shattered and sleeping soundly in our room very close to the Merced River.
