DAY 29- Tofino

We awakened today to a child yelling “the lights are on”. They had gone out last evening about 8:30 PM when allegedly a truck hit a power pole. It apparently knocked out all of Tofino, judging from the restaurants where we tried to eat lunch at today when in town.
The primary activity for today for us was a Whale Watching trip in a 30 person zodiac. Some others also went on a Bear Watching trip. After an included cooked breakfast, we headed for town midmorning to check out the town. The first 3 places we went were closed, but as we approached the Art Show, Nigel Brooks Peer, the photographer who was minding the exhibit arrived and opened up the store. He was very pleasant and ended up taking many photographs of the Morgans, and will be back in the AM to take more pictures as we leave Tofino.

We checked out a few open stores, eventually found Sohos to have a quick lunch, then put on our survival suits to go on the Whale Watching trip.

The trip was a 3 hour trip, out to the ocean. We saw a humpback whale, graywhales (supposedly- I didn’t see any), and Orca killer whales, which I saw the fins. It was a very wet trip, and was a bit cold at the end. Sherry’s back was hurting her from a bit bounce, and surprisingly Philip was seasick. I am rather lukewarm about how much I enjoyed it. Perhaps once my feet are warm, I will have a different perspective, but 2 hours later, my tootsies are still cold.
This evening we are planning on dinner here again at the Clayquout Orca Resort,  http://www.c-orca.com/
as parking in Tofino proper is difficult and the prices for meals very high. Then I hope to catch up on this blog and email. It was beautiful weather this morning, bit it almost looks like rain right now.
Kathy sounds a bit better today, after having pretty bad laryngitis yesterday. Otherwise, I think we are all healthy today.
