DAY 4- Tonopah to Springdale< Utah (Zion)

A continental breakfast at the Jim Butler Inn, another beautiful blue sky day, and we were on our way. A call to Kristi, our cat sitter, was that Healey was actually full of food. It seems that my instructions to our son Brett about feeding Healey, resulted in 6x her normal food. Kristi will get her back into the 1/3 can instead of 1 can 2x a day. We headed off on what we thought was the road to Springdale, but 26 miles down the road we came across a town, Gold ..... that I didn't remember from preparing the itineraries. 26 miles and 45 minutes later, we were starting again on the correct road, without adding more fuel to the cars. Ken had told us we could get gas in Rachel, but that wasn't what all the signs along the road were saying. Linda and Ken were very low on gas and we were truly out in the middle of no where. Approaching the mobile home restaurant that makes up Rachael, we were becoming very worried. Inquiries in the restaurant resulted in adequate fuel to get us to the next town and petrol station. We also enjoyed an alien burger for lunch. Onward to Springdale approaching Zion from the West. It was a beautiful entrance to the area and one we hadn't seen on our prior trip. As we drove up to the hotel, Linda was frustrated as her car wouldn't start. The battery was completely dead- diagnosed generator failure. She quickly got on the phone to British Motor in SLO who had a spare and will overnight it to Kanab, our next stop. A quick swim, then dinner for the whole group  on the patio which lasted from 7:45 PM until 11 PM. Very good food, but very slow and expensive,.
